**JUST IN** I Wont Seek a 2nd Term as CBN Governor - Sanusi.

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, yesterday said he would not seek re-appointment for a second term as the helmsman of the Nation’s apex bank at the expiration of his current five-year tenure next year.

Sanusi, who disclosed this during an interview with CNBC Africa in Abuja, said it was never his intention to stay longer than one term.

The CBN governor, whose grandfather was the Emir of Kano, had openly expressed his interest in becoming the next emir.

While responding to a question on whether or not the current single digit inflation rate is sustainable over a long term, Sanusi projected that inflation was not likely to rise too far above 10 per cent this year.

“We don’t think we are going to see inflation above double digits this year,” Sanusi said.

The governor, who came into office in 2009, has over the past few years initiated sundry measures, some of which had generated controversies, to ensure macroeconomic stability in the country.

Despite some of his controversial measures, including the suspended naira restructuring project, most financial analysts rate him high in his steadfastness and commitment to ensure macroeconomic stability in the Nigerian economy, amongst other monetary policy initiatives. - Naija Pundit.
