Boko Haram Smuggled Explosives into Lagos in Empty Petrol Tankers - Nigerian Army
The
Islamic terror group, Boko Haram's plan to bomb selected locations in
Lagos had reached advance stage before it was nipped in the bud.
The Islamic group had successfully smuggled explosives into Lagos in
empty petrol tankers exposing the fact that they had a through and
detailed organization for their plans.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Azubike Ihejirika, revealed
this bombshell during the second leg of the interactive session on
Military-Media Relations in Nigeria.
Gen Ihejirika said: “the
new information at our disposal revealed that these suspected terrorists
had smuggled in the large quantity of explosives into Lagos in empty
fuel tankers.”
It would be recalled that some terrorists were
arrested in Lagos at Ijora with sophisticated explosives and artillery.
Although many of them were from Northern Nigeria, it is suspected that
some others were from neighboring West African nations of Niger and
Mali.
Security in Lagos has been heightened even as the Federal
Government is now shifting on its earlier stance not to grant amnesty
to the Islamic sect.
Two weeks after the plot to bomb about 16 landmarks in Lagos was uncovered and 14 culprits arrested.
