Four men in court for alleged gang rape of sex worker

The suspects allegedly committed the act in Ikeja, Lagos.

Four men on Friday appeared at the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with alleged gang rape of a sex worker.
The accused, Solomon Obamiro, 28, Adebayo Fagbemi, 25, Soliu Obalowu, 27, and Oluwatosin Akomolafe, 22, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual harassment.

The prosecutor, Barth Nwakaoye, said that the accused and others at large, conspired and committed the offence.


Mr. Nwaokoye said that the accused committed the crime at 3 a.m. on April 13 at N0 28, Sule Abubakar Street, Opebi, Ikeja.

He alleged that the accused sexually assaulted Jennifer Uche, 27, who had an agreement with Mr. Obamiro to pay her N5, 000 for one night.
“Few minutes after Obamiro had begun the affair, the victim said a gang of seven other boys suspected to be close associate of Obamiro ganged raped her.

“Her legs and hands were held each time one of them is taking his turn, until she lost consciousness.
“When she regained consciousness, she saw that N800 was dropped for her by the perpetrators of the act,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 262(1) and 409, Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Demi Ajayi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to June, 17, for hearing.
